Anxiety Therapy in Washington, DC
Help for worry, panic, and the feeling that your mind won't slow down.
Does therapy help with anxiety?
Yes. Psychotherapy is one of the most studied treatments for anxiety, and research consistently shows it helps most people who stay with it. Therapy teaches you to understand what drives your anxiety, respond to it differently, and rely less on avoidance to get through the day.
What is anxiety therapy like?
Your first session is a conversation about what you're experiencing and what you want to change. Over the next sessions, you and your therapist build a plan together. Some sessions focus on practical tools you can use right away. Others look at the patterns underneath the anxiety, such as perfectionism, people-pleasing, or old experiences that taught your body to stay on alert.

- Avoiding situations, people, or tasks because of fear
- Physical tension: tight chest, stomach problems, headaches
- Social anxiety or fear of being judged
- Work stress or burnout that won't let up
How we work
We draw on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, and trauma-informed care. CBT helps you notice and shift anxious thought patterns. Psychodynamic work explores where those patterns came from. For clients in DC, in-person Somatic Experiencing is also available for anxiety that lives in the body.
We do not prescribe medication. If medication might help, we work alongside your prescriber or help you find one.
